What is Thermachoice

This is minimally invasive treatment for Menorrhagia in pre-menopausal women due to non-cancerous causes. The procedure typically takes about thirty minutes to perform and requires no hospital stay. A balloon, made of a silicone material is attached to a thin tube and inserted into the uterus. A sterile fluid fills the balloon, making it fit the size and shape of the individual uterus. The fluid is heated and circulated for eight minutes, then withdrawn from the balloon. The balloon is then itself withdrawn. The lining of the uterus will shed from the uterus, just as blood empties from the uterus during a period.

The Thermachoice procedure may be right for you if:
  • The cause of your Menorrhagia is not due to hyperplasia, which is the thickening of the uterine tissue.
  • You had normal Pap smear and biopsy results
  • You no longer wish to have children, but have not yet gone through menopause.

Remember that if you think you may want to conceive in the future, this procedure is not for you. There is still a small chance that pregnancy could occur, but potentially dangerous for both you and the baby. The lining of your uterus, which you need to carry a baby to full term, will be permanently removed.
